However, the motor does not have enough torque to turn that prop (21P) with 7 people and get above 4200 RPM at 42mph (speedo.) It also sluggish out of turns, on plane etc. The 21P is great for two people and will run at around 48mph at 4800 RPM. The boat is pretty weight sensitive with the 4.3 and a heavy hull to boot. I also have a 21P that came with the boat. We boat at very close to sea level (3-500 feet) and run a 19P High Five now. I have personally never tested any other prop except the High Five as that's what came with my boat. So, if you are a 17P now and you don't overrev, you should stick with a 17 H5. The school of thought on the High Five is to stick with the same pitch if that pitch is working for you right now. I'm thrilled although I honestly have nothing else to compare it to except another H5. I was not able to test the top end since the lake was not smooth enough but still achieved 40 very easily. It was also easier to maintain speed which I thought was interesting. It was a noticeable improvement in hole shot and responsiveness over the 21P.
So, I found a 19P on Craigslist that showed up Friday and I ran it for the first time today with a similar heavy load of 6 adults and a child. It could be weight, right?Īnyway, Searay recommends a 19P Vengeance for this boat/motor combo and the H5 is to match the same pitch according to Mercruiser albeit at a slightly lower top end. It felt like a dof out of the hole, especially out of the corners. With a heavy load it just felt flat (accelerated slowly/laboriousy) but still maintained a decent top end of around 42mph 4200 (I just noticed the coincidence. With that load it was good for 48 at 4800. Mine came with a 21P High Five and it did OK with a light load.
